In his own words

I have been involved in martial arts since I was a child. First, I started with Judo, then as a teenager
took up Uechi-Ryu (Okinawan) karate. He then began Aikido and also trained in Kick Boxing. I returned to Aikido when my daughter Joely began to train aged 8. I have been training continuously for over 10 years, and was graded to 1st Dan (Shodan) in December 2021 under Piers Cooke Sensei (7th Dan; chairperson of the BAB). I am a British Aikido Board (BAB) level one instructor with enhanced DBS status. Moreover, I have been continuously training and studying Karate with other members of my family for over 15 years. I am an instructor with Ren Ryú Karate based in Reigate under Anthony Wren Sensei 4th Dan. I was promoted to 3rd Dan (Sandan) in July 2024.

During my years of training in both Aikido and Karate, I have had the privilege of watching
students begin their journeys and grow in remarkable ways. I have seen young children
develop into strong, confident, and mature adults, and I have met many dedicated and
inspiring individuals both within our club and across wider associations. While some
people try the basics and move on after a few weeks or months, often finding their path
elsewhere, others discover a rhythm that works for them—attending regularly, learning,
and progressing at their own pace. Each journey is unique, and every step taken on the mat
is a valuable part of personal growth.
